Great baseball game, dramatic ending

Jan ended the baseball game with a dramatic attempt at scoring. It was an awesome moment in the baseball season and a great memory for all of us.

Congress Street, Rumford, Maine

After a great baseball game--the boys were fabulous--and a dinner of spanish rice and beef, we headed into town to the bank and then a photo on the main street. It's not busy on a Thursday evening at 8:30pm.

Don't Quit Your Day Job, Professor.

So we started this hair cut with a plan. Obviously, that didn't work... so, with Simon's urging, I just cut it all off. Don't worry, Vibeke, it'll grow back. :-)

Maine Black Bear!

One of Rich's university students took a picture this morning of a Black Bear in her driveway. They're frightened of people and run away at first sight. Usually, they look for garbage and food that may have been left out.

School Activity on Drunk, Distracted, and Text Driving

The boys were a part of a day that highlighted the tragedy of drinking and driving... or distracted driving... this news video from our state TV station showcases part of the day. Click here to watch the video.

"Foreigns" in the Outfield

"Foreigns," as labeled by the local high school kids, is a term of endearment. And this year on the high school's JV baseball team, four of the international boys have stepped up to the plate (a baseball term for going up to hit the ball at home plate). They're having fun, but each admits the pressure on the individual player is immense as they play the field, coach first base, or step up to bat. It's impressive that they have been brave enough to take on an American sport like baseball. Click on this sentence to see a collection of photos from Facebook.

Chicken a la Leonhard... Delicious!

Posing for the computer's camera

We needed a photo for the blog... so Bailey and I decided to pose for our computer's camera. (Actually, Bailey jumped into my lap demanding I put away the computer and feed him, but ... well...) We're waiting for the boys to call from baseball practice.

Have a great day!

Taking in Degas...

Connie brought the boys to the big city of Portland for some culture. They enjoyed the Degas exhibit at the Portland Museum of Art. Simon enjoyed the children's section, too.

Kate's Moose Hunt

Our friend and neighbor Kate went out Moose Hunting yesterday and nabbed this big one in a bog.

Spring Break... Moose Hunt

In search of moose, we took to the roads and headed up to Rangeley and what's called the Height of Land... the highest point where cars can get to. Rangeley is a summer and winter tourist town in the mountains about 40 minutes from Rumford.

We had burgers at a sports pub and then on the trip back, we saw two lonely moose on the edge of the road... a big male and smaller female. Unfortunately, the darkness didn't allow for photos and when Bailey started barking, the poor moose took off like blowing balls through the woods.

Spring Break.... Camp

The temperatures rose to near 80 degrees F and we took to the water urged on by Jan... "When are we going canoeing?" he asked for 6 weeks in a row. When started asking, there was still ice on the lake!

Brenda's and Connie's International Meal

Our friend Brenda and Aunt Connie cooked up a wonderful meal of German and Danish foods. Plus... a decadent dessert called Death By Chocolate. Another special memory for two special boys.
