Road Trip... to North Conway

One of the great outlet shopping areas is 70 miles from Rumford in North Conway, New Hampshire. We headed there on Wednesday afternoon.

We drove past the Presidential Range of Mountains including Mount Washington where Rich and his brothers all worked in the 196s and 1970s. Rich's great-great grandfather, his son and grandson ran a newspaper on the top of the mountain, Among the Clouds, in the 1860s-1900 and his grandfather wrote the history of the mountain called, The Story of Mount Washington. All of this family involvement brought about the naming of a ravine after the Burt Family... Burt Ravine is to the left of the Cog Railway track that goes to the top of the mountain.

Oh, and the crowns? Burger King.

An Evening at the Bennetts

An Evening at the Bennetts

Jim, Kathy, and the four Bennett Kids (plus two dogs) live two hours away in York, Maine. They have a ski house up in Rumford Point, 6 miles from Rich's home. After sliding on a farm yard-hill, we had a great dinner of tacos, chicken & rice, and hot fudge sundaes with strawberries. We then played APPLES APPLES... THE Dumbest Board Game on the Planet Earth.... WE KNEW IT WAS DUMB BECAUSE RICH KEPT SAYING, "WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE SHOOT ME?"

Jan's knee

Jan's knee is improving. Beyond the stitches, he had swelling from the smash against the ground. All seems to be improving... too bad he had to miss the State Ski Meet, however.

After-Oops!

A friend's mom saw our 3-hour ordeal in the hospital and sent over freshly made cookies at 9pm. That's small town life... and the power of Internet.

Oops!

A steep hill,
a quick turn...
Splat!

Jan goes down and a few stitches (and hours) later he's eating cookies delivered by a friend's mom. Simon, however, may take several days to recover from the trauma.

Happy Belated Birthday, Robin!

The boys had Robin (Germany) up for dinner to celebrate his birthday a few days late. Gifts of chocolate, cards, a book, and Robin's favorite energy drink... Pepsi highlighted the dinner. Oh, and then of course there was the cake.

Auf Wiedersehen, Christian!

Christian is off to Portland for the day and then he will take a flight to Seattle, Washington for a conference.

Today, he will tour the Old Port section of the city and perhaps visit the Portland Museum of Art. He's had a busy weekend of being a parent at a ski meet (translation: waiting and watching), enjoying some very cold skiing at Black Mountain of Maine with both boys, and getting a tour of the "city" of Rumford from Jan.

Last night, after a wonderful dinner at Connie's and Ben's, Christian played then table tennis vs. his oldest boy. No need to speak about the win/loss. Go, Jan! ;-)

Great to have you visit, Christian. Best wishes!

Weekend with Christian and Winter Carnival Dance

Simon and his buddy Robin (Germany) decided it was a great idea to wear matching outfits to the winter dance. Jan and his dad spent the evening at home with Bailey and Rich.

Christian, Jan, and Simon spent the day skiing and studying, and then this evening we went to Connie's and Ben's for a wonderful meal. Thanks, Connie!

#3

First, at 5 a.m. it comes as a recorded phone message from the Superintendent of Schools. Then, as an email. No school!

Yesterday, we received 3 inches of crusty snow, and now that snow is being bolstered with a bit of freezing rain: perfect for developing a great base for skiing well into March. We don't have a lot of snow, but what we have is durable and promises staying power.
